I’ve only jumped up in the air, shouting the words ‘she said yes’ twice in my life, the second being when legendary film producer Gale Anne Hurd agreed to come on my channel for an interview.
Gale was born in Los Angeles, growing up in Palm Springs California. After graduating from Stanford University, she joined New World Pictures as executive assistant to Roger Corman, the company president. She worked her way up through various administrative positions and eventually became involved in production. Like many of her contemporaries she credits the legendary film Producer Roger Corman as being both a great mentor and giving her start in the industry.
Later Gale formed her own production company, Pacific Western Productions (now Valhalla Entertainment), in 1982 and went on to produce a number of the most iconic box-office hits in cinema history, including The Terminator (1984), Aliens (1986) and The Abyss (1989) Tremors (1990) Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Other work has included Raising Cain (1992) Sugartime (1995) The Ghost and the Darkness (1996) The Relic (1997) Dante’s Peak (1997) Armageddon (1998) Virus (1999) Dick (1999) The Punisher (2004) Aeon Flux (2005) to name but a few.
Gale would go on to Produce several television drama series, including one of the most successful of all time The Walking Dead (177 episodes) and its various spin of series. Other TV series include: Lore, Falling Water, Adventure Inc.
In 1998, she was awarded the Women in Film Crystal Award for outstanding women who, through their endurance and the excellence of their work, have helped to expand the role of women within the entertainment industry. She became a Governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences., was awarded a star on the Hollywood walk in 2012 & the Laura Ziskin Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, the Fangoria Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 and Producers Guild of America’s David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures
A life long supporter of Arsenal football club, Gale will be in good company this evening as that is also Lance’s team.
Your Host – Lance Steen Anthony Nielsen is a four time award winning playwright, screenwriter, author, acting coach and film director. Throughout his career he’s worked with some of the best British actors in the industry including Jason Flemyng, Danny Webb, Duncan Pow, Lindsey Coulson, Paul Copley, Alicia Eyo, Wil Johnson, Craig Fairbrass and has numerous others attached to projects in development including Phil Davis, Donal Logue and Sharon Duncan Brewster. An avid table top gamer, Lance has a passion for running huge games for players in a variety of settings.
He co-founded The Outcasts Creative, an actors workshop, with actor and coach Dickon Tolson. Together they ran the Outcasts drop-in acting class from 2019 – 2023) – The company produced the stage productions Borderlands about immigration, and produced the first drama to take on the Horizon Post Office Scandal, False Accounts which was highly praised by the former Subpostmasters. Lance decided to dedicate his YouTube channel to supporting & promoting the work other Creatives
